# COSH

Calculates the hyperbolic cosine of a provided value.

## Syntax

```sql theme={"theme":{"light":"css-variables","dark":"css-variables"}}
COSH(<value>)
```

## Parameters

| Parameter | Description | Supported input types |
| :- | :- | :- |
| `<value>` | The value that determines the returned hyperbolic cosine. | `DOUBLE PRECISION` |

## Return Type

`DOUBLE PRECISION`

`COSH` is defined for every real argument and never returns a value below 1. An argument whose hyperbolic cosine overflows `DOUBLE PRECISION` raises an out-of-range error rather than returning infinity.

## Example

The hyperbolic cosine of 0 is 1:

At `LN(2)` the result is exact — `(2 + 1/2) / 2`:
